The Classic "Panama" Hat is a hand made woven product from Ecuador. The term "Panama" Hat refers to its place of international sale ‘Isthmus of Panama’. Panama Hats are made using a fine straw material called toquilla straw. Weaving started as a cottage industry in the early 1600s. In 1904 President Theodore Roosevelt visited a work site of the Panama Canal which further popularized these hats.
